(Game Jam Winner Spotlight: This Is Not A Game About A Pipe)

In 1929, the Belgian surrealist painter Rene Magritte created  The Treachery of Images. The painting is perhaps better known by the French text on the painting itself, “Ceci n’est pas une pipe”, translated to English as “This is not a pipe”. Of the painting, Margitte said,

“The famous pipe. How people reproached me for it! And yet, could you stuff my pipe? No, it’s just a representation, is it not? So if I had written on my picture “This is a pipe”, I’d have been lying!”

This surrealist theme is reflected in this game as we consider what things are and what they are not.

This is very cool, looking forward to trying it out! Would it be possible to update the files to make them easier to print double-sided? Centering the cards, collating the card backs, etc.

Give me some time, and I'll make that happen. Thanks for the interest.

First off, this game looks so cool! I'm so excited to play.

I'm also having difficulty getting these printed. My biggest obstacle is the cards being off center.

When will that be available? Also, when is print on demand coming?

Thanks for the interest!

I've updated the PNPCards file to allow for aligned double-sided printing on cardstock. If you have any other issues with the pnp files, please let me know.

I'm targeting next week for the POD availability on Gamecrafter. When it's up, I'll update this project page and reply to this post.

What is the best way to print them?  I've printed them double-sided, flipping on the long edge, and they're off by about a millimeter horizontally and half a millimeter vertically.  Unfortunately, that's enough to cross the gap between cards.  Is this something I can fix, or is it an inherent problem in printing from PDF?

Thanks for identifying potential printing issues.

I've updated the TINGAP-PNPCards.pdf file with the following changes.

  • Centered the page content to correct possible margin issues.
  • Added crop and registration marks to aid alignment.
  • Rotated the card backs so that they flip along the short edge of the page for double-sided printing instead of the long edge to aid alignment.  Duplex printing is not recommended for correct alignment.

Hopefully this will help with your issues and thanks for your support!

I wanted to follow up on the possibility of print on demand. I've decided to spend my energies on pitching the game to established publishers instead of preparing the files for a print on demand service.

Thanks for your interest. Watch this space for possible production publishing updates.

Congrats on the game jam win for Best Analog! What's the best email for me to use to coordinate the prize?
